The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane is the highest-strength retinol The Ordinary sells — for experienced retinol users who want maximum results on the look of deeper lines, stubborn dark marks and rough texture. Even at 1%, the squalane base keeps it more comfortable than water-based formulas, but this is not a product for beginners.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1% retinol too strong?
For most people starting out, yes. Begin with 0.2%, move to 0.5%, and only then 1%.
Retinol 1% vs CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum?
The Ordinary 1% is much stronger. CeraVe's encapsulated retinol is gentler and better for sensitive or blemish-prone skin.
Why does my skin peel?
Peeling means you are using too much, too often. Drop to twice a week and add a barrier moisturiser.
